Today’s theme for #1LineWed on Twitter, sponsored by RWA’s Kiss of Death chapter, is setting. I’ve posted one example already from WAR: Disruption. I’ll post another later in the day.
The difficulty with pulling only one line out of the manuscript is that I try to weave my settings into the action, so a single line loses some of its oomph when taken out of context.
If you’re not on Twitter, here’s what I posted when the theme was dialogue. Again, all of these are from my upcoming book WAR: Disruption.
“You’re family, whether you want to admit it or not. We don’t abandon family.”
“Dude, give me credit for not being a moron.”
“No, you’re not. You’re just being your usual arrogant self.”
“Carry out this mission. Then you can go back to playing Mr. Martyr and be miserable all by your lonesome, you stubborn bastard.”
“Can you put the hysterics on hold until we get safely away?”
“Hysterics? I’m not having hysterics. I’m furious.”
