Ballet-and-gunsAs a romantic thriller writer, sometimes my research leads me in very different directions. For example, my heroine Emily in WAR: Disruption is a former principal ballet dancer. This led me to read Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina, the autobiography of American Ballet Theatre dancer Misty Copeland.
In order to understand my villain, who is an international arms dealer, I read Merchant of Death: Money, Guns, Planes, and the Man Who Makes War Possible.
The contrast between these two books is one of the aspects I love most about being a writer. It’s so much fun to explore a wide range of topics and careers. Although I have to admit that Misty’s book was a much faster read than the guns book. I can only handle a small amount of details about criminal activity at a time. 😉
