Intrusion featured on NOOK First page

The doctor versus the soldier story is getting some love today from NOOK.

Yep, that’s right, Helen and Lachlan’s story, WAR: Intrusion, the second book in my action-packed romantic thriller series WAR is featured today on the NOOK First page.

How cool is this?IMG_0180

I LOVE writing this series and am so happy to see Intrusion getting some attention. It makes it all the more rewarding to return to work on book three, WAR: Opposition. I’m about one-third of the way through the rough draft of Opposition and really loving these characters. And yet, for fear of jinxing the writing, I’m not ready to reveal who the hero and heroine are. Those of you who are on my newsletter list will be the first to find out when I’m ready to share.

Until then, Happy Reading!

Vanessa

#1LineWed – HOOKS (aka chapter endings)

I’m back! After a three-week hiatus, I’m again participating in #1LineWed on Twitter, sponsored by RWA’s Kiss of Death chapter.

Today’s theme is HOOKS (aka chapter endings). I just posted the hook from the end of Chapter One of WAR: Intrusion, the second book in my new romantic thriller series WAR. The hook for Chapter Two will go up by the end of the day.

I chose hooks from the first two chapters because the hooks that come later in the book contain spoilers. Today’s lines are also the first ones that are guaranteed to be in the final version of the book. There’s a possibility I might tweak them slightly, but I’m in the last stages of proofreading, which means no throwing away or completely rewriting lines.

If you’re not on Twitter, here’s what I posted the last time I participated in #1LineWed, on July 15th. That day, the theme was WATER. These lines are also from WAR: Intrusion. At that point, Intrusion was still a work in progress, aka WIP. I haven’t checked to see if these lines are still in the book or not. 😉

Lachlan wanted to feel her soft mouth under his more than he wanted his next sip of life-preserving water

She’d rather have his mouth against hers. He’d be hotter, and tastier, than this lukewarm, watery imitation of coffee.

Newsletter with Excerpt!

Today I sent out the latest edition of my newsletter, which includes an excerpt from WAR: Intrusion. Those of you who follow me on Twitter for #1LineWed might recognize a couple of lines. 😉

If you’ve signed up for my newsletter but don’t see this in your inbox, please check your tabs and/or your spam/junk folder. I know that Gmail sometimes puts my newsletter on a Promotions tab.

Happy reading!

“I told you to stay out of trouble, Scots. Would it kill you to do as I ask for just one day?” p. 111

The silence that followed the bursts of gunfire was worse than the noise of the shooting.

Thunder cracked. She winced as the sound reverberated inside her aching skull. “I’m fine. You can go away now.”

The boom of an explosion interrupted the speaker. A child screamed in terror and pain and was answered by a woman’s howl of grief.

Her hopes plummeted, vanishing as quickly as the pebbles her toes had dislodged from the edge of the cliff.

Lachlan hadn’t thought his heart could hold any more pride, but it nearly burst at his team’s show of support.

The branches sticking up from the downed tree appeared sharp enough, and thick enough, to pierce the gas tank.

As the rain pounded the dirt yard into thick muck behind him, Lachlan used his lock picks on the security door.

Unexpected sadness engulfed her. For so long, her only goal had been to leave this place. Yet now she didn’t want to go.
