A while back I was listening to the Kobo Writing Life podcast and they interviewed author Ben Macintyre about his non-fiction book The Spy and the Traitor. The book tells the story of KGB officer Oleg Gordievsky who became a double agent for MI6. I found the interview with Macintyre so fascinating that I immediately put in a hold request for the audiobook at my local library.

The audiobook came in to my account recently and I've become enthralled by it. The book presents so many fascinating insights into the life, personality, and mentality of a spy. The stories are riveting. I particularly love hearing about mistakes and near misses.

This book is also providing excellent research material for my WIP, helping me to tweak a character to be more realistic.

The audiobook is read by John Lee, who has the perfect voice for this story. I don't listen to a lot of audiobooks, because even with non-fiction I find the narrators annoying or boring. But Mr. Lee's narration grabbed me from the start. He's a gifted storyteller who makes the characters come alive. You can listen to an excerpt at the publisher's website.

Highly recommended!
