The latest season of Doctor Who just started.
It always takes me an episode or two to get used to a new actor. So far, I like this Doctor.
However, what I found annoying in a couple of the episodes were moments when the Doctor explained too much to his companion.
Usually, the information about the Doctor’s past gets doled out in tiny pieces over the course of many adventures with the new companion.
The first couple of regular episodes had moments that bordered on being an info dump. Which is something I know the writers know better than to do, because they’ve both written episodes where the Doctor starts traveling with a new companion. Which makes me think they were pressured to put more explanation into those episodes so that new viewers to the series via Disney Plus wouldn’t feel lost.
I think there’s value in letting the viewer, and the Doctor’s companion, live in ignorance for a while. A bit of mystery is part of the appeal.
I still enjoyed the episodes, but it was a bit annoying.
Fortunately, by the third regular episode the over-explaining had stopped.
