With the temperatures dropping and the sky getting dark earlier in the day, it’s time for me to change out my drapes from summer to winter.

Usually, after storing the drapes in the basement, I take them to the dry cleaners before hanging them. But this year when I showed up with an armful of drapes they told me they’re no longer accepting drapes and curtains.

So back home I went. Since I just hang the drapes in the basement, I know they had to be a bit dusty. But I was NOT going to put the drapes in the washing machine and then have to iron all of them.

Old oil painting style image of a woman in a long, brown, plain cloth dress with over it a white apron. Over her hair is a white cap. She is holding a short wooden paddle and beating the dust out of a set of brown drapes hung from a wooden fence. There is a log cabin in the distance across a stretch of grass.

So, thinking back to history lessons, I decided to beat the dust out of the drapes. Instead of an official beating tool, I used an old back scrubber that had a nice, round, wooden head.

It worked well enough for my purposes.

The drapes are now hung and I’m all set for winter!
