While walking today along a path I’ve taken many times, it occurred to me that writing is like my walks.

Even when I’m going down the same path - building characters, developing plot, filling in details - I always find something new and exciting.

I never know what I’ll find on my walk. Like the sunlight hitting a fern and casting this striped pattern on my walk.

Sunlight hitting a fern forms a striped pattern on the base of a tree.

Just as I’ll never know what a character is going to do, or what cool setting detail will pop into my head.
