This evening’s writing session is brought to us by thunderstorms.

An image of a woman sitting crosslegged, her back to the viewer, looking out the window as lightning forks down from the clouds.

I have an app on my phone where I’ve put together a mix of storm sounds. I play this when I’m writing my draft.

The irony, as I realized during tonight’s actual thunderstorm, is that real storms don’t calm me down. I love them, but I’m usually dashing to the window to see what’s going outside, or bracing for another loud clap of thunder, or running around trying to unplug all the electrical stuff before it gets fried.

Yet the storm sounds on the app provide a soothing background noise that helps me write.

Go figure.
