Tomorrow is January 1, 2020 and I can’t turn around without running into another end-of-the-decade reflection or best-of list.

But does 2020 really start a new decade?

There are a lot of different thoughts on this. I particularly like the explanation offered on TimeandDate.com. They say that if you think of decades in terms such as the 80s or the 90s, then yes, 2020 starts a decade. It begins the 2020s.

If you start counting a decade with years ending in 1 and go through 10, then 2021 starts the new decade.

Their conclusion? Celebrate the start of the decade twice, once for each method.

Two parties? I’m on board for that!

Whatever method you use for calculating a decade, I hope you have a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!
