I underwent a routine medical procedure yesterday.
It was my first time having anesthesia intravenously. One moment, I was on the table in the surgical room. The next moment, as far as I was aware, I was waking up in recovery.
I wasn’t scared when I woke, but it struck me as being such a weird thing to experience. To have strangers move my body from one place to another without my being aware is just what would happen if I were dead.
Very surreal.
The only other time I’ve had anesthesia, it was via gas through a mask and I woke up in the same spot.
Of course, being a writer, this experience is going into my storytelling toolkit!
