I recently picked up some Flonase nasal spray. On the package was this set of symbols.

An image of a hexagon with a symbol in each corner: a house, a tree, a flower with three dots coming off of it, an eye, a nose, and a cat. The sections are colored orange, green, dark green, blue, dark blue, and red. In the middle is the phrase 24 Hour Relief.

I looked at them, trying to decide what each symbol meant.

This is what I decided:

1. House = Relief from houses falling on you

2. Tree = Relief from trees grabbing you

3. Flower = Relief from flower power

4. Eye = Relief from the discomfort of having strangers looking at you

5. Nose = Relief from bad smells

6. Cat = Relief from the aloofness of cats

Obviously, I had a bit of fun with this.

This is the (boring) meaning Flonase assigns to each symbol:

1. House = Indoor allergens

2. Tree = Outdoor allergens

3. Flower = Outdoor allergens

4. Eye = Eye symptoms

5. Nose = Nasal symptoms

6. Cat = Animal allergens

My answers are a lot more fun!

My issue here, to get all serious, is that all but Eye and Nose represent types of allergens, while Eye and Nose represent symptoms.

An allergen causes symptoms. I think the chart should have either all allergens or all symptoms, not both. Or at least, they should have separated them by more than just color.

What do you think?
